The name of the panel 'Northern Edinburgh Community Safety Panel' is used to reflect the area covered by the Police Division.
Basic Strategy
We are able to react to and provide support for projects aimed at problems identified from time to time and are of a transient nature, also we can develop longer term projects that have a degree of permanency in the community and in which the Panel can play the role of being a facilitator. By pursuing both types of project, the Panel will be able to play a role in improving community safety, the quality of life in the community and fostering better relationships between the police and the public at large.
Initially, three groups within the community have been identified where community safety projects might be promoted both in the long and short term. They are
- Youth – provision of facilities and activities to develop self awareness, community responsibility and social events.
- Elderly – provision of facilities to ensure elderly are safe and secure, have social interaction and are able to live without fear of crime.
- Ethnic Minorities – the promotion of social mixing, development of cross-cultural events and the breakdown of social barriers that separate groups by colour, religion or ethnic grouping.
“The work of the Community Safety Panel is not about preventing or solving crime, the Panel’s work is about helping to make our community a safe place for all where crime is not an issue.”
