Promoting crime prevention and community safety in North Edinburgh

The North Edinburgh Community Safety Panel objectives are to support and promote initiatives which enhance the safety of all people living and working in the area. Working with Lothian & Borders Police, other agencies and community groups, the panel aims to promote schemes that:

• Reduce crime and address the causes of crime

• Develop and promote good community relationships for all

• Improve community facilities and resources

“It is only when people are given and take ownership of community matters that the successful and ongoing development of our communities can flourish through the care and responsibility of all community members.”

The name of the panel 'Northern Edinburgh Community Safety Panel' is used to reflect the area covered by the Police Division.

Basic Strategy

We are able to react to and provide support for projects aimed at problems identified from time to time and are of a transient nature, also we can develop longer term projects that have a degree of permanency in the community and in which the Panel can play the role of being a facilitator. By pursuing both types of project, the Panel will be able to play a role in improving community safety, the quality of life in the community and fostering better relationships between the police and the public at large.
